- What are your goals as a peer tutor? That is, what do you hope to accomplish for yourself and for those you’re assisting in the space.
- What do you expect to happen in the session you’re attending for Project 1 as a student seeking assistance in the RWC?
- What do you expect from your role as an observer (you’ll be observing sessions in a few weeks to take notes on them) in the RWC?
- What do you expect/what will your role be when you begin co-tutoring (you’ll be taking over sessions with a mentor assisting you after you observe) in the RWC?
- What do you expect/what will your role be upon taking on the role of tutor for yourself after you begin tutoring alone in the RWC?
Continuing from where we left off in class, I want you to think about and respond to the following questions and establish how you see your role functioning in these different contexts. The book couches this in terminology for "setting expectations," but it might be helpful to reframe it as "establishing roles" and/or "establishing goals." So, with that in mind, respond to the following questions:

1.) My goals as a peer tutor is to sharpen my skills and the student skills. I want to be able to make a difference in the lives of the students that I'd tutor. Show them important school skills by working on listening, communicating clearly, and accurately. As I help other students out I hope to mature in my own writing.

1. I want to help people learn to write better. I know that sounds so original, but I already edit for my friends, and show them things that I see without training… I like helping people in general so I think my goal as a peer tutor is to help other people do better.

1. My goal as a peer tutor is to gain a better understanding of what tutoring actually entails and to be able to have a chance to share by knowledge and skills with my peers to help better their ideas and writing.

1.) My goals as a peer tutor are to better both other’s writing and my own. I hope to give writers advice that they can return to when doing other assignments, as well.

1.) I plan on being a teacher one day and I think learning how to be an effective tutor will greatly benefit me. I'm hoping this class will teach me how to listen to what I am being told and how to understand and articulate my opinion in a way that is easy to understand. I also hope that what i can help the students with are simple tools they can use again and again.

1.) What I hope to gain from becoming a peer tutor is a better understanding of the writer/editor realtionship. I want to be able to understand how to help without telling and give ideas without taking over. I hope to someday be an editor and publisher so I think learning some ways to help others now will benefit me later.

1. My goals as a peer tutor are to open up the world of writing to those who are terrified by the thought of it. Most people think that writing can only be done successfully by those who predominantly use the right side of their brain or grew up reading books. I want to break down the writing process, make it less daunting. I want to make it seem like an accomplishable task- one that is able to be accomplished successfully by anyone.

1) As a peer tutor, I hope to be able to assist writers to find their voice and become more comfortable and confident in their writing. Ideally, the writers I help will come earlier on in their writing processes so that I can help guide them toward a better understanding of the writing process and how best to approach writing for their particular abilities and comfort. As a tutor, I hope to gain experience in editing other’s work, both on the technical end of grammar conventions and mechanics, as well as on the personal side of things concerning delivery of critiques and how best to find a balance between teaching and guiding.

1. My goals for myself as a peer tutor are to gain an understanding of writing that I can apply towards my own writing. I am also interested in the ways that the experience of being a peer tutor could shape my own interest towards areas like education and editing (though I know both are distinct from the actual function of the RWC) as they pertain to writing. For those I will be assisting, my main goal is to help them feel that regardless of their actual area of study, not only are they writers, but they are in fact capable writers.

1. I'd say my goal is that of a coach: to put someone in the best position for success given the tools that they possess. So, I would push my students to be the best writer they can be but also to teach them that there are other ways of being a good writer aside from what they already know. I'd want to assist them on their journey, by giving them guidance and criticisms that would ultimately benefit them in the future.

1. I believe that spending time with your work of your peers helps you to identify similar issues you encounter in your own work, and that is something I hope will happen as this semester progresses. Additionally, and even more importantly, being able to assist someone from the perspective of a peer is a great advantage to the tutee. Peer tutors are able to relate to their peer tutees in a way that professors and TAs are not. I hope to use this as an asset while tutoring those in the RWC this semester.

1. As a peer tutor, I hope to grow as a writer myself through helping others strengthen their writing skills. I hope to provide helpful and relevant insight that will make the person I tutor successful.

1. My goals as a peer tutor include better myself but most importantly bettering the writer. I hope to give the tutee input that will last them for future writing experiences. Instead of simply editing their papers, I hope to teach them something about themselves as writers.
